The PersonFinder
app is the result of a collaborative effort by a dedicated team from the
Centre for Artificial Intelligence at the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora,
Jammu & Kashmir.
Designed to help families locate missing or elderly loved ones quickly and safely, the platform combines AI,
facial recognition, and predictive analytics.
The idea for PersonFinder
was conceived by Dr. Wajid Aalam, who envisioned a platform that could leverage AI to enable
faster, more accurate searches while keeping privacy at the forefront.
Under his supervision, Amir Mushtaq and Abrar Ahmad developed the application,
contributing expertise in ML, programming, and software architecture—ensuring the system is reliable, scalable,
and intuitive.
A robust facial recognition pipeline was implemented, capable of matching individuals against verified records
with high accuracy. Predictive analytics further guide searches and prioritize leads. These features were
refined iteratively for speed and usability.
Privacy and security were treated as first-class requirements with encrypted data handling, access controls, and
ethical safeguards to protect user confidentiality.
The project also incorporated feedback from stakeholders, which led to improvements in usability, search
filters, and notifications. This ensured the platform remained practical and community-driven.
In summary, PersonFinder
emerged as a vision by Dr. Wajid Aalam and was transformed into a working, community-focused
platform through the efforts of Amir Mushtaq and Abrar Ahmad.
Together, they delivered a solution that combines AI innovation with empathy and responsibility.
